Introduction

Sunday worship services are now being held at Carrville at 10:30 am

From Thursday 5th January 2023 their Thursday services and drop-in will be held in Bowburn Community Centre which is opposite Bowburn chapel – there is plenty of parking to the side and behind the centre

Bowburn Methodist Church has a membership of 15 with an average congregation of about 20 worshipping every Thursday morning. The congregation, of all ages, is drawn mainly from Bowburn and the two surrounding villages of Shincliffe and High Shincliffe.

The present building was built in 1910, following the amalgamation of the “Tin Chapel”- a Primitive Methodist church which was on the top of the hill in Bowburn; and the “Central” Methodist church at the bottom of the hill. Initially it served the spiritual needs of a mining community.

A traditional Methodist chapel, the congregation welcomes newcomers with warmth and fellowship. We also worship God together bear witness to God through service in the local community.

Activities

The “Drop In”

There is also a “quiet room” and always someone present, for those, perhaps recently bereaved, who wish to chat over coffee to a sympathetic ear.
